Fiber – the glass pipe with unlimited potential; backhauling Internet, voice and video traffic across the globe and even to homes. Fiber is the vital connection to all things digital, it is the highest capacity solution available to date and is the ubiquitous medium for all longhaul networks now reaching speeds of 40 and 100Gbps.
Fiber is also finally finding its way into our homes and businesses; the most visible being Verizon’s FiOS , although there are plenty of less marketed, localized deployments. These connections provide super-fast internet, in some countries up to 1Gbps and this is clearly not the limit. Domestically, most high-end service plans reach 100Mbps. Fiber has also been a successful medium for voice deployments and due to its high bandwidth capacity digital video service too. And it comes in a myrad of acronyms under FTTx; FTTP, FTTN, FTTH and even more, indicating where the connection is demacated (node, curb, premise, basement, home, etc).
We have experience network engineering with and for fiber connections from small SFPs and GBiCs to last mile PON/GPON and long-haul CWDM and DWDM networks.
